It is a well-known fact that there is the possibility to decrease the needed heating power in buildings by decreasing the convection temperature (i.e. the temperature of the air in rooms) while simultaneously increasing the mean radiation temperature of ambient surfaces (walls and surfaces of heating devices). If the value of the PMV formula is not changed, the thermal comfort in the room should not be changed. The aim of this paper is to evaluate possible energy savings resulting from the described process in case of an average living room. The first step is to make graphs of relations between convection and radiation temperatures for constant PMV value. Then the steady state heat transport equations are solved and the energy savings become apparent.

The paper deals with Genetic Algorithms applied on the optimization of Mean Radiant Temperature. The position of radiators is optimized to fit the best value of chosen criterion. This access and developed software can be easily used to solve optimization problems of lighting, industrial heating etc.

In this paper there is described the way and experiences of implementation of Genetic Algorithms(GA) in program Mathematica. There was implemented GA in order to find a optimal solution of NP-hard or other large complex problem(in many dimensions). In Department of Electroenergetics this package was used on several problems with
enough good results.

Production, transmission, and use of electricity are accompanied with generation of low-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF). These fields may affect both operation of near electric devices and appliances and also behaviour of various living organisms. Although it is not exactly known whether exposure to such EMF constitutes a health hazard or not, the general trend based on the mentioned viewpoints is to minimize their values as much as possible. The paper summarizes the latest results of research in the domain of the biological effects of EMF and consequent health risks, in connection with EMFs produced by overhead lines of general configuration. Presented is the procedure for determining the peak values of such fields and description of the corresponding code written in “Mathematica”. Theoretical considerations are supplemented with illustrative example and presentation of the results.

Abstrakt
V článku je popsán přístup k řešení pohody člověka v konkrétním interiéru. Je podán soubor objektivních faktorů, ovlivňujících pohodu interiérů a zvláštní pozornost se věnuje optimalizaci klimatu z hlediska tepelné a světelné pohody. Cílem optimalizace je i snížení energetické náročnosti otopných a osvětlovacích soustav. Teoretická odvození jsou doplněna prezentací dosažených výsledků.

The paper deals with the design of selected electroheat device as an optimization problem that in fact every creative design invention is. The design process represents the solving of some type of indirect task, exactly unsolvable and in addition the exact solution of the direct problem is unsolvable as well and numerical approximation seems to be -instead of designer’s transcendental anticipation- the only way. Authors show the principles of the fitness function creation and finding optimal and sub-optimal parameters (for example the geometry, temperatures, air velocity) using genetic algorithms based on optimization techniques. Appliances examples of glass furnaces, paper drying and solar collector systems are presented.
